A lot happened for me in 2022. I moved country and had to learn a new language which sidetracked me from boardgame design. Between January and August of last year I wrote no posts and it wasn’t until June when I started designing again. However, since June I have created 2 boardgames, one of which won an award. I have also since slowly been getting back into blogging. With that said there is a lot of plans for 2023 to come which I hope to achieve in the coming months.
January – March:
Right now the 2023 Two Player Design Contest is underway and I am working on my submission of Throwing Stones, which will be a curling game. Right now I have a working prototype and the aim is to have all rules and digital files for the two player version ready by the submission close date of the 14th of Febuary. I then have until the end of March to make any adjustments to the game before voting starts, with the results to be announced sometime in May.
I’ve also began running a monthly challenge for Roll Into Town, where everyone can play with the same rolled dice and see if they can get the best score for the month. This will now be ongoing each month.
On top of this both Roll Into Town and Diceathlon are being worked on to be added to boardgamearena. When these games will be available for the public is hard to say exactly as both are in the early stages of development and I have no experience of how long the process takes.
For this site, it will undergo another reorganisation as I fit in the different sections together. The more industry focused posts will return with a focus on different aspects of design and marketing. Once the process of getting the games developed for boardgamearena is finished, there will definitely be a post talking through how that works. The weekly round up posts will remain (and I will definitely find a structure for them eventually).
Rest of the Year:
From June until October the Solitaire game design contest begins and I will enter a boxing game inspired by Dicey Dungeons. The game will be a short campaign game as you try to rise up the ranks to become the world boxing champion. I have some loose ideas for how the game works but once the Two Player contest has past I will get deeper into the mechanics.
I want to run a Kickstarter for both Roll Into Town and Diceathlon this year, however it mostly hangs upon when the games are through beta testing on BGA as I want them to be available simultaniously. Both games will also have a few additional features on the kickstarter version as opposed to the currently available free print and play versions and what will be available digitally on BGA. These also need to be designed along with the kickstarter pages.
Last December I was in a store and saw a version of Monopoly that cost 50€, it inspired me once more to write a “Modern Alternatives to Classic Games” article. So each month until December I will take one classic boardgame and suggest a modern alternative, which improves on the original concept for a similar price. So let me know down below which classic game would you like to see me write about.

-That is pretty dope !
